If your Air Conditioning is not as cold as it used to be, some might say it needs to be re-gased,  well in a typical refrigerated application, (your home Freezer) that is not true, no one re-gases their fridge every year as its a wilded and sealed system.

However, in the automotive industry, refrigeration systems have connectors, seals, and lines that go from the front of your vehicle to your dashboard, and, unlike your fridge, your vehicle experiences vibrations and huge changes in temperature due to engine heat. This can cause losses in refrigerant gas. All vehicles would have an expected acceptable pressure loss defined by the manufacturer, this acceptable pressure loss is extremely small, that you won't notice any performance reduction up until the vehicle had seen about 10 years of constant use, give or take.

The idea here is, if you're having to re-gas your AC system every year, there is a large leak. The good news is, this can be detected with a gas analyzer or a dye in the gas which would be visible under UV light. If your AC system is not cold at all, DO NOT re-gas it, have it tested properly for leaks and the operation of the mechanical parts before re-gassing the system which could over-pressurize it, and cause further damage.
