How much power does a tuned X3 M Competition make?

With EuroLab’s MHD custom dyno tune, the X3 M Competition (510hp stock) typically makes 590–600hp at Stage 1. Stage 2 pushes to 650+hp. The S58 engine is identical to the M3/M4 — same tuning potential. All figures SAE J1349-corrected on our Mainline hub dyno.

How much does it cost to tune an X3 M in Auckland?

MHD OTS (self-flash) is ~$993 for the S58 license plus $189 for the WiFi adapter. EuroLab’s MHD custom dyno tune is $2,500 incl. GST. xHP transmission tune (OTS) from $769. FEMTO unlock ($2,800) required for models produced June 2020+. Pre-June 2020 vehicles with a BMW dealer software update require a bench unlock ($575 incl. GST).

Do I need a FEMTO unlock for my X3 M?

If your X3 M or X4 M has a production date of June 2020 or later, yes — the newer DME hardware requires FEMTO unlock ($2,800) before MHD can flash. Pre-June 2020 models that received a BMW dealer software update also need a bench unlock ($575 incl. GST). Check your production date on the B-pillar sticker or via BMW’s VIN decoder.

Is an SUV worth tuning?

Absolutely. The X3 M Competition with a Stage 1 tune produces 600hp through AWD — that’s faster than most sports cars in a vehicle you can take the family in. The practicality of an SUV with supercar performance is the whole appeal.

What’s the difference between X3 M and X3 M Competition?

The standard X3 M makes 480hp, the Competition makes 510hp with a slightly more aggressive tune and sport exhaust. Both use the same S58 engine and both respond identically to aftermarket tuning — Stage 1 results are virtually the same.

Can EuroLab service X3 M and X4 M as well?

Yes. We’re a full European vehicle workshop handling diagnostics, servicing, and repairs for all BMW models. The S58 in the X3 M / X4 M is the same engine as the M3/M4 — we know it inside out. Full workshop at 27a Neilpark Drive, East Tamaki.
