M133 Tuning FAQs

How much power can a tuned M133 make?

With a custom dyno tune, the M133 typically produces 420-440hp at Stage 1 (software only). Stage 2 with bolt-ons pushes to 460-500hp. With an upgraded turbo and supporting hardware, 550-650+hp is achievable. All figures SAE J1349-corrected on our Mainline CCS3600 hub dyno.

How much does it cost to tune an M133 in Auckland?

EuroLab's custom dyno tune is $2,500 incl. GST. This includes a baseline dyno run, custom calibration for your specific car, and final validation pulls - calibrated for NZ 98 RON fuel and local conditions.

What's the difference between M133 and M139?

The M139 is the successor to the M133, found in the newer W177 A45 S and C118 CLA45 S. The M139 has higher stock power (416hp vs 381hp), a different block design, and revised turbocharger. They're separate tuning platforms - this page covers the M133 in the W176/C117/X156 generation.

Is the M133 reliable after tuning?

The M133 is robust for its displacement. Stage 1 is very safe on factory hardware. Stage 2 benefits from an upgraded intercooler and downpipe. The most common maintenance items are the turbo inlet pipe (prone to cracking at higher boost) and spark plugs (shorter intervals when tuned).

Can you tune the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system?

The 4MATIC system itself doesn't have a tuneable control unit in the M133 generation. However, the combination of ECU tuning and launch control calibration dramatically improves off-the-line performance through the AWD system.

Does the A45 AMG need a downpipe for Stage 1?

No. Stage 1 is software-only - no hardware modifications required. A downpipe (catted or catless) is a Stage 2 addition that improves exhaust flow and allows the turbo to spool faster. We recommend a high-flow catted downpipe for the best balance of performance and practicality.
