Maximum Potential900-1,200+ hp (upgraded turbos)

Why the M177?

  • The M177 is a hand-built AMG engine - 'One Man, One Engine' - with massive tuning headroom from the factory twin-turbo setup
  • The flat-plane crank GT variants and standard hot-vee crossover design respond exceptionally well to ECU calibration
  • Strong factory internals handle Stage 1 and Stage 2 power levels without hardware modifications
  • Pairs with AMG Speedshift 9G-MCT transmission - responds well to TCU tuning for faster shifts and higher torque limits

How It Works - Our Tuning Process

Every EuroLab custom tune follows the same rigorous 4-step process.

🔍

1. Consultation & Health Check

We inspect your vehicle, check for fault codes, and discuss your goals. No tuning happens on a car with underlying issues.

📈

2. Baseline Dyno Run

Your car goes on our Mainline CCS3600 hub dynamometer for baseline power and torque measurements - SAE J1349-corrected for honest, repeatable numbers.

🔧

3. Custom Calibration

We develop your tune file in-house, making iterative adjustments on the dyno. Fuel maps, boost targets, ignition timing - all calibrated for your specific car, mods, and NZ 98 RON fuel.

4. Final Validation & Handover

Final power pulls to confirm gains, data review with you, and a road test. You leave with your dyno sheet and a car that performs exactly as promised.

M177 Tuning FAQs

How much power can a tuned M177 make?

With a custom dyno tune, the M177 typically produces 600-700hp at Stage 1 (software only). Stage 2 with bolt-ons pushes to 700-800hp. With upgraded turbos and supporting hardware, 900-1,200+hp is achievable. All figures SAE J1349-corrected on our Mainline CCS3600 hub dyno.

How much does it cost to tune an M177 in Auckland?

EuroLab's custom dyno tune is $2,500 incl. GST. This includes a baseline dyno run, custom calibration for your specific car, and final validation pulls - calibrated for NZ 98 RON fuel and local conditions. TCU tuning for the AMG Speedshift transmission is available as an add-on.

What's the difference between the M177 and M178?

The M177 and M178 are closely related - both are AMG's 4.0L bi-turbo V8. The M178 is the designation used in the AMG GT (C190 coupe/roadster) with a dry sump and flat-plane crank. The M177 uses a wet sump and is found in the C63, E63, G63, and SUV models. Both engines respond similarly to tuning.

Is the M177 reliable after tuning?

The M177 was built with significant headroom. The factory internals, turbochargers, and transmission comfortably handle Stage 1 power. Stage 2 is generally safe with supporting hardware (downpipes, intake, intercooler). Beyond Stage 2, upgraded turbos and fuel system modifications are recommended.

Can you tune the W206 C63 S E Performance?

The W206 C63 S uses a different powertrain - a 2.0L M139l turbo four-cylinder with an electric motor (hybrid). This is not an M177 engine. See our M139 tuning page for the newer C63. The W205 C63/C63 S uses the M177 V8.

Do you tune the AMG Speedshift transmission too?

Yes. TCU (Transmission Control Unit) tuning for the AMG Speedshift MCT and 9G transmissions is available. This includes faster shift speeds, higher torque limits, launch control calibration, and improved shift logic. TCU tuning is recommended alongside ECU tuning for the best experience.
