M270/M274 Tuning FAQs

How much power can a tuned M270/M274 make?

With a custom dyno tune, the M270/M274 typically produces 270-300hp at Stage 1 (software only). Stage 2 with bolt-ons pushes to 310-340hp. With an upgraded turbo and supporting hardware, 380-420+hp is achievable. All figures SAE J1349-corrected on our Mainline CCS3600 hub dyno.

How much does it cost to tune an M270/M274 in Auckland?

EuroLab's custom dyno tune is $2,500 incl. GST. This includes a baseline dyno run, custom calibration for your specific car, and final validation pulls - calibrated for NZ 98 RON fuel and local conditions.

What's the difference between M270 and M274?

The M270 is transversely mounted (front-wheel-drive platform - A-Class, CLA, GLA, B-Class). The M274 is longitudinally mounted (rear-wheel-drive platform - C-Class, E-Class). Internally they are very similar engines with the same displacement, turbocharger, and tuning potential.

Is the M270/M274 reliable after tuning?

These engines are robust and handle Stage 1 comfortably. The factory turbocharger has headroom beyond stock power levels. Stage 2 benefits from an upgraded intercooler. The most common maintenance item is the timing chain (should be inspected on high-mileage examples before tuning).

Is it worth tuning a C200?

Absolutely. The C200 (184hp stock) jumps to around 270hp at Stage 1 - that's nearly 50% more power from software alone. The C200 and C250 use the same engine as the C300, just with a more conservative factory tune. A tuned C200 feels like a different car.

Can a tuned C300 keep up with a C43?

Not quite in a straight line - the C43's V6 bi-turbo still has a significant displacement and cylinder count advantage. But a Stage 2 C300 at 310-340hp closes the gap considerably and in everyday driving conditions, the difference is much smaller than the spec sheets suggest.
