How much power can a tuned OM642 make?

With a custom dyno tune, the OM642 typically produces 290-330hp at Stage 1 (software only) with 600-700Nm of torque. Stage 2 with exhaust modifications pushes to 340-380hp. All figures SAE J1349-corrected on our Mainline CCS3600 hub dyno.

How much does it cost to tune an OM642 in Auckland?

Is the OM642 reliable after tuning?

The OM642 is one of Mercedes' most reliable diesel engines. Stage 1 is very comfortable on factory hardware. The key pre-tuning checks are the oil cooler seals (a known OM642 issue regardless of tuning), intake manifold swirl motor, and DPF condition.

Will tuning help with towing?

Absolutely. The OM642 is commonly found in SUVs and large vehicles used for towing. The torque increase from a Stage 1 tune (600-700Nm) makes towing dramatically easier - less downshifting, better hill holding, and the engine doesn't have to work as hard under load.

Can you tune the G350d?

Yes. The G-Class G350d uses the same OM642 engine. The tune transforms the G-Class from a capable but unhurried off-roader into a genuinely quick vehicle. The extra torque is especially noticeable off-road and when climbing steep gradients.

What about the OM642 oil cooler issue?

The OM642 has a known oil cooler seal issue that can cause oil to mix with coolant. This should be inspected and addressed before any tuning work. We check for this as part of our pre-tuning health check - no tuning happens on a car with underlying issues.
