🇳🇿 NZ / Australia Market Note: Turbo & Exhaust Manifold Differences

In New Zealand and Australia, the 2019 and 2020 Supra A90 models came with an integrated exhaust manifold (iEM) cylinder head and a 2-port turbo. From 2021 onwards, Toyota reverted to the standard 6-port turbo configuration used in other BMW B58 applications.

The 6-port turbo models (2021+) are generally more desirable for tuning as they can make more power and offer better compatibility with aftermarket turbo upgrades. If you're buying a Supra for tuning potential, the 2021+ models have the edge.

Why the Toyota Supra A90 / A91?

  • The A90 Supra uses the exact same B58 Gen2 engine as the M340i - all BMW MHD tuning applies
  • At ~1,500kg it's significantly lighter than any BMW B58 application - the same tune feels dramatically faster
  • Toyota's ZF 8HP is the same unit as BMW's - xHP transmission tuning works identically

How It Works - Our Tuning Process

Every EuroLab custom tune follows the same rigorous 4-step process.

🔍

1. Consultation & Health Check

We inspect your vehicle, check for fault codes, and discuss your goals. No tuning happens on a car with underlying issues.

📈

2. Baseline Dyno Run

Your car goes on our Mainline CCS3600 hub dynamometer for baseline power and torque measurements - SAE J1349-corrected for honest, repeatable numbers.

🔧

3. Custom Calibration

We develop your tune file in-house, making iterative adjustments on the dyno. Fuel maps, boost targets, ignition timing - all calibrated for your specific car, mods, and NZ 98 RON fuel.

4. Final Validation & Handover

Final power pulls to confirm gains, data review with you, and a road test. You leave with your dyno sheet and a car that performs exactly as promised.

Toyota Supra A90 / A91 Tuning FAQs

How much power can a tuned Supra A90 make?

With EuroLab's MHD custom dyno tune, the Supra A90 3.0T typically makes 420–430hp at Stage 1 (software only). Stage 2 with bolt-ons pushes to 460–500hp. Stage 3 with an upgraded turbo and ethanol reaches 800+whp. Our most extreme Supra build made 818whp. All figures SAE J1349-corrected on our Mainline CCS3600 hub dyno.

How much does it cost to tune a Supra A90 in Auckland?

MHD OTS (self-flash at home) is ~$993 for the B58 license plus $189 for the WiFi adapter. EuroLab's MHD custom dyno tune is $2,500 incl. GST. xHP transmission tune (OTS) is $769. If your ECU is locked from a Toyota dealer software update, a bench unlock is $575 incl. GST. Supras produced June 2020+ also require a FEMTO unlock ($2,800).

Does my Supra need a bench unlock or FEMTO unlock?

Two different things: (1) If Toyota has performed a dealer software update, your ECU may be locked - a bench unlock ($575 incl. GST) is needed to restore flash capability. (2) If your Supra was produced June 2020 or later, the newer DME hardware requires a FEMTO unlock ($2,800) before MHD can flash. Some cars need both.

Is the Supra A90 really a BMW?

The engine and transmission are 100% BMW - the B58B30 3.0L turbo inline-6 and ZF 8HP. This is identical to the engine in the M340i, Z4 M40i, and other BMW models. All BMW-specific tuning tools (MHD, xHP) work on the Supra. The chassis, body, and interior are Toyota/BMW co-developed.

What's the difference between A90 and A91 Supra?

The A91 is a special edition trim package, not a different chassis. Toyota released A91 Edition and A91-CF Edition models with cosmetic upgrades. Mechanically they're identical to the standard A90 3.0T - same B58 engine, same tuning potential. The 2022+ facelift models received a power bump to 382hp.

Can I get Stage 3 or Stage 4 for my Supra?

Yes. Stage 3 (800+whp) involves an upgraded turbo, ethanol fuel system, and supporting mods. Stage 4 (1,300+whp) requires EuroLab's complete engine and transmission build programme - forged internals, built trans, custom everything. Stage 3 and Stage 4 are enquire-only as each build is fully custom.
