Designed for tuned daily drivers making 400–600hp. We use Applied Torque Solutions (ATS) stage kits — we’re authorised ATS dealers in New Zealand. Stage 1 includes an ATS billet E hub, upgraded friction plates, genuine ZF transmission fluid, recalibrated valve body for firmer shift points, and mechatronic software update. Retains smooth street manners with significantly improved torque capacity and reduced slip under hard acceleration. A Stage 1 ECU tune with increased line pressures and custom calibrations is essential to keep the transmission in check — but a physical gearbox build is not required at this level.

Using ATS Stage 2 kits featuring billet C and E hubs, upgraded clutch packs, genuine ZF transmission fluid, performance valve body with optimised pressure regulation, and custom TCU calibration with increased line pressures. Like Stage 1, a tune is essential but a physical gearbox build is not required. Shifts are noticeably firmer with virtually zero slip under full power.

Everything in Stage 2 plus billet D piston, billet E piston, 300m C collar, billet D drum, ATS valve body upgrade, and full mechatronic overhaul. Our Stage 1 build costs significantly less and gives you a gearbox that’s stronger than factory. For tuned vehicles, a built gearbox isn’t optional — it’s insurance against catastrophic failure.

Build costs vary depending on the ZF variant, stage level, and components required. We use genuine Applied Torque Solutions (ATS) kits as authorised dealers. Contact us for an accurate quote tailored to your vehicle and power goals.
If the gearbox is delivered to us already removed from the vehicle, turnaround is approximately 2 weeks. If we handle removal and reinstallation as well, you’re looking at around 3 weeks. Stage 3 builds with billet components may take longer if parts need to be sourced from ATS. We’ll give you an accurate timeline at booking.
For Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 2+ ECU tunes, a physical gearbox build is not required — however, a transmission tune is essential to keep it in check with increased line pressures and custom calibrations. Once you get to Stage 3 and above, a fully built transmission is usually required to reliably handle the increased power and torque.
No — the gearbox must be removed from the vehicle for a proper build. We remove, strip, build, and reinstall the transmission in-house. This ensures every component is inspected and the build quality is guaranteed.
All ZF8 builds come with a warranty on parts and labour. The warranty period depends on the build stage and intended use (street vs track). We’ll discuss warranty terms during your consultation.
